Lovers Of The Red Sky is a sageuk fantasy romance drama. It centers around the royal family's effort to seal MaWang (Demon) to stop its power and terror from continuing to possess the next King's body. However, to achieve this the Royal family require assistance from the Ha family ( a family of shaman born with water energy ) and Hong family ( a family of divine painters ).

This drama completed my 2021 drama watching experience. With a line of stellar casts, characters that are well developed and an engaging main plot, this one takes a top spot in my heart.
No drama is without flaw of course. Admittedly, there were a few questions left hanging and the open ending finale makes us wonder if they are hinting at a spin off of the Royal family's fight for the throne.
However, the overall execution was a good one. Each episode was unpredictable and gave us new surprises. The ending especially was gripping and heartbreaking at the same time. I have seen that episode four times now and I still get extremely emotional each time.
Different from other sageuk drama that puts a lot of attention on palace politics and the endless secrecies, LOTRS focuses more on the effort of sealing MaWang with the assistance from magical beings - Samsin, Tiger Spirit, Hwacha and a divine spirit that came and help HaRam make his final decision.
On top of that, each character believes in honesty and speak truths to one another which was personally for me, very satisfying to watch.
I feel my words are lacking in describing the drama as a whole. To summarise - I REALLYYY like this drama.
After her success in Love In The Moonlight, actor Kim Yoo Jung has outdone herself with her portrayal of Cheong Gi.
This is the first time I am watching Ahn Hyo Seop, GongMyung and Kwak SiYang. Each of their characters come with their own complexity and all three actors successfully brought their character to life.
